Chocolate Cherry Bars

1 pkg. Devil's food cake mix
21 oz. jar cherry pie filling
1 tsp. almond or vanilla extract
2 eggs, beaten

Frosting:

1 cup sugar
1/3 cup milk
5 tbs. butter or margarine
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Use Crisco (not oil), grease and flour 13" x 9" pan. In bowl, combine first 4 ingredients. By hand, stir until well mixed. Pour into pan, bake 25-30 minutes. While it cools, make frosting. Combine sugar, milk, butter. Boil, stirring constantly, 1 minute. Remove from heat, stir in chocolate pieces until smooth. Pour over cooled bars.

When cool, spread 1 medium-sized container Cool Whip over top.
